Materials

  • worsted cotton yarn, size 4

    • suggested colors: orange for the pumpkin, brown for the stem, and green for the leaf & vine

  • 4.5mm hook

  • 1 button

  • roving, yarn, or polyfil

  • scissors


Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • sc - single crochet

Main - Pumpkin Body
  1. [Orange Yarn] Beg magic circle, 8 sc, sl st into 1st ch, ch 1

  2. hdc in 1st sc, 2 hdc ea 16 st, sl st into hdc 1, ch 1

  3. sc 16, sl st into 1st sc, ch 1

  4. 2 sc blo ea 32 sc, sl st into ch 1

  5. 1 sc blo ea 32 sc, sl st into ch 1

  6. ch 1, hdc blo 35 hdc, sl st into ch 1

  7. ch 1, hdc 36, sl st into ch 1

  8. ch 1, dec 2 hdc 1, hdc 2, repeat dec 2 hdc 1, hdc 2, finish row with sl st into ch 1

  9. ch 1, sc blo to row end, sl st last st in row

  10. ch 1, sc dec 2, sc 4, repeat sc dec 2, sc 4, sl st last st in row

Stem
  1. [Brown Yarn] Beg ch 6, turn and sc 5 into back bumps, ch 1, turn

  2. sc 2, hdc 2, ch 1 turn

  3. hdc 2, sc 2, pull tail through stitch, tie off & cut

    Vine
  4. [Green Yarn] Beg ch 16, turn, sc 1 in 1st st, sc 3 in ea st to row end, pull tail through last stitch, fasten off and weave in ends

    Leaf
  5. [Green Yarn] Beg magic circle, sc 4, sl st into first sc, ch 1 and turn

  6. sc 1, sc 2 tog 5 st, sc 1, ch 1, turn

  7. in first st, sc 1, hdc, second st hdc 2, 3rd st hdc1, sc1, 4th st hdc 1, ch 1, hdc 1; sc 2, hdc 3, sc 1; tie off & cut

  8. Pull tails through first st and knot


Construction and Finishing

  1. Sew pumpkin closed and draw a length of yarn through the center of your button, then feed the double yarn vertically through the base of the pumpkin. Pull the yarn taut and make a double knot

  2. Tie or sew on the stem, vine, and leaf. Weave in ends or sew stem around ends to finish piece.
